The School of Art Collection and Galleries at 91㽶Ƶ University are excited to exhibit "The Art of Seeing: Reflections on Art through Poetry," a collaboration between the School of Art Collection and Galleries and the Wick Poetry Center.
This exhibition will be held in our CVA Gallery located in the Center for the Visual Arts, 325 Terrace Drive, Kent, Ohio. The exhibit will take place August 26 - October 8, 2025, with a reception on August 29, 5-7 p.m. This exhibit features over twenty artworks from the School of Art Collection and ekphrastic poems by members of the Kent community written in response to those selected works.
The School of Art Collection at the Center for Visual Arts at 91㽶Ƶ University contains over 4,500 art and aesthetic objects, in which community engagement is encouraged and promoted. A series of community outreach events over the past year included poetry workshops with the Wick Poetry Center. The Wick Poetry Center in Kent, Ohio has served the northeast Ohio community with poetry for over forty years, hosting workshops and community events to keep the art of poetry alive in the local area. In these collaborative workshop events, pieces from the School of Art Collection were displayed to promote ekphrastic poetry.
Ekphrastic poetry is a form of poetry that vividly describes a scene or work of art. By encouraging engagement with the School of Art Collection pieces, poets were encouraged to encapsulate their response to the artwork, recontextualizing the art pieces through the lens of literary artists.
The School of Art Collection and Galleries and the Wick Poetry Center have chosen to capitalize on their unique partnership by creating this upcoming exhibition, “The Art of Seeing: Reflections on Art through Poetry.” Over twenty artworks from the School of Art Collection are featured alongside corresponding ekphrastic poems created by members of the Kent Community.
This exhibit is free and open to the public and has been brought to you with support from the Ohio Arts Council.
